TYPE 3 1500 GLASS MODEL, 1960
From 1961 to 1973, Volkswagen offered not only the Beetle (Type 1) and the Bus (Type 2), but also the so-called Type 3 – the Great Beetle. It was the first serious attempt to expand the model programme towards the mid-size class.
The glass model on display was produced for trade fairs and other presentations before the Type 3 was launched. It shows the technology (boxer rear engine with twin carburettors), but also the interior of the seats, doors and roof.
