Passat B1, 1973

With the 1973 Passat, the modern era for Volkswagen began. It was based on the Audi 80, with the front and rear sections redesigned by Giorgio Giugiaro.
The displayed vehicle with chassis number 2 is today the oldest production Passat in the world.
Initially, the Passat was available as a two or four-door with a small rear hatch. From 1975, there was an alternative option of a rear hatch that extended up to the roof. The Variant model had already been introduced by January 1974. By the end of 1976, the first million Passats had been produced.
